Don Ulmer – Cold War Sub Skipper and Author

Including a treasure trove of WWII letters from his brother Richard Ulmer USN QM3 on LCI-725

Dick

D. Richard Ulmer, USN QM3

From LCI-725

Capt. Don Ulmer USN (Retired), former skipper of the US submarine Clamagore, at the LCI 713 restoration project.

Don Ulmer, a U. S. Naval Academy graduate, served thirty-two years in the Navy, most of this time in submarines.  He is likely the only U.S Navy man to have served in enlisted status and later commanded the same warship.  Between writing novels for Patriot Media, Inc., Ulmer busies himself writing plays for the Seattle Museum of Flight where he is also a docent.  He volunteers at Overlake Hospital Medical Center, Bellevue, WA.  Ulmer's by-line appears frequently beneath historical articles in his NJ hometown newspaper.
